Flying Geese Quilt Guild - Orange County CA

I have just finishing teaching two full day classes at the Flying Geese Quilt Guild here in sunny California. It does feel good to be out of the snowy cold weather for a while. I was really thrilled that the students were very creative laying out their leaves in many different formats.
Having spent time layering the leaves I went on to teach many stitches using different textural threads, ribbons and yarns. It is always amazes to me how it changes the appearance of all the leaves.
We also added buttons and beads.
Tonight I am doing a trunk show at Flying Geese Quilt Guild thenI will be traveling to Surfside Guild to do a workshop on Wednesday.
I can't wait to see the finished results of these pieces and thanks to all for such a fun time.
Keep stitching
Sue

Happy New Year

Happy New Year
Many thanks to all of you who hosted a teaching event as well as all our new and loyal customers. 2010 has been a fantastic year. I have had the wonderful opportunities to visit Barcelona, France and Australia as well as many new states across America. Thanks to all my friendly and enthusiastic students.
I would also like to thank my committed employees Cathy, Peggy, Mary and Kelly for their commitment and enthusiasm and a special thanks to Michelle and I wish her well on her new venture abroad. Thanks to my family for all they have done in 2010 without you it would not be possible.
I have had a very special few weeks with my four kids. I have loved every minute of Andrew and Jason's visit. I wish all of you the best for 2011.
I would like to share with you our special time.
They helped me move furniture.
Cook wonderful meals.
Aimee cooked her wonderful homemade pizza.
Shared some time together laughing.
Jason treated us all to Beef Wellington for Christmas.
Watched movies and relaxed.
Had a sewing day making quilts and Aimee made these great owl doorstops.
Aimee, Kelly and Jason dyed wool for the new BOM. Zoe loved the pile of undyed wool.
We also celebrated Kelly's birthday.
I will miss our time together but I am looking forward to visiting Jason and Andrew in 2011.
Love you all

Visiting Family

I am visiting my family in Spokane for a few days. It is like a winter wonderland here. This is the spectacular view from my sister and Pete's home. Yesterday morning it was spectacular the sun was shining and all the trees and plants were covered in icicles. It was hard to capture the beauty with my little camera but I hope get the idea.
They have a large barn on their property which they renovated this summer. What a fabulous space to work! Wendy now has her own a dye room and wool room. If you did not know we do all our dyeing in house. Wendy does all the wool and velvets for the website and kits with a little help from my kids Aimee and Jason.
In the other sections of the barn is a pottery room and encaustics room for my dad a huge space for jewelry and print making for Wendy and a metal shop for Pete.
Wendy has a large amount of one off pieces of wool from testing wool colors. Pete and her have been working through this huge table of wool making similar size stacks. Wouldn't these make unique scrap bags for applique!
I can't believe how wonderful this work space is now. The whole family including my kids love to come out here to create. They are always joined by their four legged friends Shumba, Morgan and Boekie.
Take care
Sue

Happy Thanksgiving

It has been an amazing year! I am so thankful for my children Kelly, Andrew, Jason and Aimee my Mom and Dad, Sister Wendy and her husband Pete and to my many special friends. Without them I would not have had these wonderful opportunities.
Today I am featuring some pictures from quilts we have been working on here at home. I have three quilt groups that meet with me monthly and many of these projects are still in progress. I am truly thankful to these friends who keep me moving forward and inspire me to try new things.
I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Take care
Sue
